How to Continuously Monitor Internet Connection Stability

Are you frustrated with your internet connection stability? Are you getting page cannot display most of the time? Is your broadband networking stability breaks every 5-10 minutes and then restore automatically? Question could be anything regarding a internet connection problem, but first step is always preferred to monitor internet connection connectivity yourself.

Internet connection diagnostic can be done with the two most popular methods. The very first is by pinging DNS server of your ISP or by using a internet connection monitor software like Net Uptime Monitor.

Below you will learn how to continuously monitor internet connection connectivity with both of the methods.

I have also suffered with the internet connection problem in last few days.

From past few days I was getting irritate using my internet connection. I had complaint to my broadband internet service provider and they told me that the issue is with my computer’s LAN card and not in the internet connectivity.

Later, I installed a new PCI Ethernet Card in my computer and then monitor the internet connection connectivity. Luckily I found the issue from the ISP side.

Again I complaint to my ISP and saw him the fluctuating net connection, then he agreed and changed the Lan RJ45 connector after diagnosing the network issue. Now my internet connection is working fine.

Well, it can also be a ISP problem, even if your modem, router, DNS server and network connections seems fine. Most of the time power cycling the hardware can also fix the issues. So before complaint to your ISP or do monitor internet connection stability, always try to fix the problem by switch off/on the hardware from mains and disable/enable the network device.

Now let’s do the job – check net connection stability. Below methods to monitor internet connection drops, work for both – wired and wireless networking. Doesn’t matter whether you’re using a cable broadband internet or WiFi network.

How to Ping DNS Server to Monitor Internet Connection Connectivity

The server connection works fine for about 5-10 minutes and breaks for about couples of seconds and then it restore automatically.

Connecting and disconnecting problem occurs the whole day and this is too much annoying thing when the problem starts all of a sudden when you’re doing some urgent work.

Well look at the below steps to continuously monitor internet connection connectivity.

Here I am pinging Google’s DNS server IP address (eg: 8.8.8.8) to monitor internet connection drops because Google server never goes down. So open the Run box by going to start => Run or press Win key + R (shortcut) and type the following command, then hit enter.

ping 8.8.8.8 -t

The –t forces the ping command to run continuously until stop manually.

Now see the status of your net connectivity. Look at the above screenshot of ping command, it will define you easily.

It shows the live status of your internet connectivity. If the status continuously shows like below example of reply-

Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=285ms TTL=58

It means that the connection is fine, however in all other cases, the internet connection having some issue.

In above example of reply, the response time & TTL numbers could be different on your system, however any other numbers also mean the same; the connection is working good.
